On the morning of January 8th, 2025, my wife Jessica and I returned to our neighborhood to discover it was completely destroyed. When we left the night before, at 5:30 PM, there was not a single fire engine or siren to be heard. We were, for all intents and purposes, alone. The next morning, a few hundred yards away, we found the hapless Engine 69, lost, less than a mile from their firehouse. The rig driver asked me if I could identify a house's street, another hundred yards away, on fire. I was dumbfounded. Not only did they not fight the fire in my neighborhood, but they also didn't even know where they were. Hang this picture on the wall to remind yourself that you should never depend on the fire department to save your home or community. The Los Angeles Fire Department should be made to paint their equipment yellow, for cowardice. #PalisadesMad
